Nate Northey, Shoot Director E-mail: trap2008@mchsi.com SATURDAY, MAY 1st .2010 For the past twenty-five years, the Cedar Falls Gun Club has held a statewide trap shooting competition for high school-age students. As more schools have recognized trap shooting as a sport, the attendance rose to forty schools and 315 participants in 2009. Many experienced shooters volunteer to help make this a safe competition, and many parents attended, making the total attendance of six hundred not unusual.
The cost of participating in this event has risen to over $30.00 the day of the event and several hundred dollars to practice in preparation for the competition, Therefore, the Cedar Falls Gun Club is looking for sponsors who are interested in helping high school-aged students discover the fun of trap shooting. Please help us promote this event that demonstates the safe use of firearms for high school-aged students.
ATTENTION: ATHLETIC DIRECTORS AND
TRAP SHOOTING COACHES/SPONSORS This event is open to both male and female students in grades 8 through 12. Schools may enter as many 5-person teams as they desire. Each team must have an adult coach/sponsor, and students from schools with less than five participants will compete as individuals. The program will include practice sessions starting at 8:00 A.M. and a gun safety presentation at 10:00 A.M. The competition, consisting of 50 regulation trap targets (25 targets at 16 yards and 25 handicap targets at 19 yards) will follow. Students will compete both in teams and as individuals for the following trophies: * Top 6 School Teams * Top 6 Male Shooters * Top 6 Female Shooters TROPHIES COURTESY OF THE WATERLOO AND CEDAR FALLS MCDONALD’S The entry fee of $12.00 per shooter includes the costs of the competition but not lunch. A food vendor will be on-site to sell food items. Participants must provide their own guns, shells, eye and ear protection, and pay $5.00 for each practice round. Even in case of rain, the shoot will be held, unless lightning occurs, so students should prepare accordingly. Students are required to complete PARENTAL CONSENT FORMS and verify that they meet the requirements to participate in activities at their schools. These forms, along with the TEAM ENTRY FORMS and necessary entry fees, must be submitted by the coaches/sponsors/parents the day of the trap shoot. Failure to have these forms completed will delay registration and trap assignments. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged, and pre-registered squads will shoot first. More about this can be found on the RULE REMINDERS FOR THE 2010SHOOT page. The Cedar Falls Gun Club’s Board of Directors believes that this 25th Annual High School State Shoot will provide a friendly competitive event where students can demonstrate the safe use of firearms. At the 2009 shoot, 315 students from over 30 Iowa schools competed. Please pass on this information to interested students, staff, and parents at your schools. Thank you. In 2009, the Cedar Falls Gun Club, individuals, and businesses contributed over 300 door prizes for shoot participants. In addition, Pheasants Forever provided each shooter with a commemorative hat pin. For more information, contact NATE NORTHEY, Shoot Director, by phone at 319-235-6925 or by email at trap2008@mchsi.com.
